Yesterday Jordan turned 32, we celebrated at home with homemade poké, cherry cheesecake beer and this pie—it was lovely. I’ll spare turning today’s newsletter into a sappy love letter to Jordan, but I will share a few reasons why they are the best person I know.
When we first met, one of the things that immediately struck me about Jordan was their calm nature — for someone like me, who is constantly reacting to whatever inconvenience or stressor, small or big, and inexorably wears every emotion on my sleeve, being in Jordan’s presence was like having the worlds best weighted blanket and warm reassuring hug wrapped into one.
Jordan is my favorite person to eat with, their enthusiasm and appreciation for food stirs something inside me, I knew I met my match. Biking to get pastries before work has become our weekly ritual.
They are always thinking about little things (that feel so big) that they can do to make my life easier and better. Like noticing my toothpaste is low and bringing me a new tube, or that my coffee is almost out and buying me a new bag. The other day we were meeting at a friend’s birthday at Brooklyn bridge pier, I hate biking alone through dumbo because the streets are confusing and I always get lost, but it was out of the way for them to meet me. They met me anyways without me even asking, knowing my route and timing it perfectly so we met right before I entered dumbo. They led the way seamlessly and even took me on a scenic route.
They treat everyone, people they love deeply, acquaintances and strangers, with such kindness, care and respect. A baseline trait that you’d assume most people have, but is rarer than you think. Jordan is innately this way and it’s very beautiful to watch.
Jordan is extremely brave, which they might disagree with, but it’s something they prove time and again in the way they pursue the things they are relentlessly passionate about, whether it be self training to run their first marathon, or using their body as a literal barricade at a protest. They inspire me immensely.
For these reasons and so, so much more, Jordan is someone who I feel extremely fortunate to share my life with. I hope this next year of life is awesome, I’m so lucky to have a front row seat.
